Steps:
A. Synthesis of 4-chloroacetyl-antipyrine (1)(CA):
To 100 mL round-bottomed flask charged with antipyrine(1.88 g, 10 mmol), chloroacetyl chloride (1.2 mL, 15 mmol) wasadded. The produced paste was heated at 95-100 °C for 4 h and then left to cool. The paste was distributed in ice-cold water to solidify and the solid was collected, then recrystallized from ethanol to yield 4-chloroacetyl-antipyrine (1). Yellow crystals, yield 70%, m.p. 165-166 C, lit. m.p. 164-165° C[16]. FT-IR (KBr) (Figure S1)m/cm1 = 1655 (C = O), 1618 (C = N).
