Steps:
9.1 Step 1: (S)-3-(Dimethylamino)propane-1,2-diol
Sodium hydroxide (52.47g, 1.31mol, 14.5eq) was dissolved in water (100mL) and cooled to 0°C, (R)-3-chloropropane-1,2-diol (10g, 90.47mmol, 1eq) was added ) and N,N-dimethylamine hydrochloride (84.84 g, 1.04 mol, 11.5 eq). React overnight at room temperature. The reaction of the starting material was complete as monitored by TLC. After filtration, the filtrate was extracted with chloroform. The organic phase was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated to obtain the crude product (S)-3-(dimethylamino)propane-1,2-diol (3.8 g, yield: 35.25%) as a colorless liquid .
