1-Benzyl-pyrrolidine-3-carbonitrile (5.08g, 27.3 mmol) was taken up in THF and cooled to0 C. After 10 minutes LAH (2.09g, 55.1 mmol) in THF at 0 C was slowly added to the pyrrolidine solution. Gas evolution was observed, and the reaction was allowed to continue at0 C for 30 minutes. The reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 2 additional hours. The reaction was quenched with water (2mL), 1NNaOH (2 mL), and again water (6 mL). The resulting slurry was filtered over a pad of celite which was washed with dichloromethane and the combined filtrates were concentrated to give 4.2 g of the title compound (yield: 82%). MS (APCI+):m/z 191 (M+H)+.
