Step 4. Methyl 2-amino-5-chloro-3-nitrobenzoate. To a solution of 2-amino-5-chloro-3-nitrobenzoic acid (0.645 g, 3 mmol) in MeOH (10 mL) 0°C was added SOCl2 (0.7 g, 6 mmol). The mixture reaction was stirred at 80°C for 12 nr, then cooled to r.t. and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography to give methyl 2-amino-5-chloro-3-nitrobenzoate (420 mg, 61% yield). LC-MS: m/z 231(M+H)+.
