Step 3. 2-Amino-5-chloro-3-nitrobenzoic acid. A mixture of 5-chloro-3-nitro-2-(2,2,2- trifluoroacetamido)benzoic acid (1.28 g, 4 mmol) and aq. NaOH (10%wt, 10 mL) in EtOH was heated to 80°C for 2 hr, then quenched with water and extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous Na₂S0₄ and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 2-amino-5-chloro-3- nitrobenzoic acid (0.81 mg, 94% yield) as pale yellow solid. LC-MS: m/z 215(M-H)⁺.
