4.2. General procedure for the synthesis of 4-carboxythiazolines or 4-carboxyoxazolines
General procedure: To a solution of 4-carboxythiazoline or 4-carboxyoxazoline (0.5 mmol) in anhydrous DMF (1 mL) were added molecular sieves (4 ?, 100% wt) and Cu(OAc)2 (9.1 mg, 0.05 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred with an O2 balloon at 120 °C for 10-24 h. The resulting mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and the solution was washed with water and brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel to afford 4-carboxythiazole or 4-carboxyoxazole.
