Steps:
2.1.2. Synthesis of 4-ethoxycarbonyl-oxy-3,5-dimethoxy-benzoic acid (III)
1 mol/L sodium hydroxide aqueous solution (800 mL) was added to a 1000 ml round bottom flask, and 3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxybenzoic acid (0.33 mol) was added in slowly. Then, ethyl chloroformate (0.33 mol) was added dropwise to keep the temperature of the reaction solution at about 0 C. 3 mol/L hydrochloric acid was used to adjust the pH to 4.0for the white solid. The product was recrystallized with acetone toobtain the white crystal with a yield of 74.1%, which was characterized by 1H NMR in Supplementary Fig. 2.
