General procedure: A mixture of arylboronic acid 1 (1.0 equiv, 0.5 mmol), CuNO3·3H2O (3.0 equiv, 1.5 mmol) and K2S2O8 (3.0 equiv, 1.5 mmol) was added to a quartz reaction tube. Anhydrous MeCN (5 mL) was added under a nitrogen atmosphere. The mixture was stirred at 70 °C in a light reactor (WATTECS WP-VLH-1020 40 W blue LED) overnight. After the reaction was complete, the mixture was evaporated under reduced pressure to leave a crude residue, which was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (hexane/ethyl acetate = 8:1) to afford the product 2.
