General procedure: A 25 mL Schlenk tube equipped with a magnetic stirring bar was charged with aniline 1a (93mg, 1.0 mmol), 4-methylbenzenethiol 2a (62 mg, 0.5 mmol), flavin II (11 mg, 0.025 mmol), I2(6 mg, 0.025 mmol) and MeCN (0.5 mL). The reaction mixture was heated at 60 oC for 24 hunder O2 atmosphere. After the reaction was complete as determined by TLC, it was quenched with saturated Na2S2O3 solution (5 mL) at room temperature, and then extracted with ethyl acetate (15 mL x 3). The organic layers were combined, washed with water andbrine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and then concentrated in vacuum. The residue was purified by flash column chromatography (hexane:EtOAc = 60:1) to give product 3a (92 mg,85%).
