3.2.5. Synthesis of 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde
To a solution of 24-dihydroxybenzaldehyde 8 (4 g, 28.9 mmol) in 50 ml acetone, K2CO3(4 g, 28.9 mmol) and dimethyl sulfate (3.65 g, 28.9 mmol) were added; then the mixturewas refluxed for 6 h. After the reaction mixture was cooled and insoluble material wasremoved by filtration, the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residuewas recrystallized from water-alcohol to give the compound 2 (3.8 g, 86.3% yield), m.p.41-43 °C, 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ: 11.49 (s, 1H), 9.72 (s, 1H), 7.43 (d, J = 8.7 Hz,1H), 6.54 (dd, J = 8.7, 2.2 Hz, 1H), 6.43 (d, J = 2.2 Hz, 1H), 3.86 (s, 3H), which was identicalto that in the literature
