有二氧化硫氣味。對濕敏感。有酸性反應。與酸接觸有二氧化硫逸出。在空氣中逐漸氧化成硫酸鹽，在濕空氣中氧化更快。如研磨成粉灼熱時能燃燒。易溶于水，不溶于醇。190℃時分解。有刺激性。 Potassium disulfite (Potassium metabisulfite, PMB) is an inorganic salt with antimicrobial properties. It is a sulfiting agent that prevents browning of foods. Its genotoxic and cytotoxic effect has been assessed. PMB undergoes hydrolysis to form potassium bisulfite.Potassium disulfite has been used in a protocol for the modification of the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymer surfaces.
