Allgemeine Beschreibung
C13orf12, also called POMP (proteasome maturation protein), is a chaperone protein for proteasome, and has a molecular weight of 16kDa. It is thought to exist as a tetramer with the molecular weight of 64kDa. It is both a cytosolic and a nuclear protein. It has a ubiquitous expression pattern, and the corresponding gene is localized to human chromosome 13q.
Biochem/physiol Actions
POMP (proteasome maturation protein), or C13orf12, acts as a chaperone which is essential for the maturation of the 20S proteasome proteolytic core complex. It has an important role in the terminal differentiation of human epidermis. Deletion in this gene is linked with KLICK syndrome, which is a rare autosomal-recessive skin disorder. The deletion results in modified distribution of proteasome in the epidermis, causing altered formation of outer layers of skin.
