Allgemeine Beschreibung
Tumor susceptibility 101 (TSG101) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 11p15.1–15.2. The encoded protein is a member of catalytically inactive ubiquitin E2 variant (UEV) family. Tsg101 is characterized with an ubiquitin E2 variant (UEV) domain in its N-terminal end involved in HIV-1 budding and the vacuolar protein sorting (VPS) pathway.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Tumor susceptibility gene 101 is a human gene that encodes for a cellular protein. It is involed in infection of various papillomaviruses (PVs), and is also responsible for the trafficking of human papillomaviruses (HPV) through the ESCRT machinery and multi-vesicular bodies (MVBs), which forms a part of virus entry. The expression of this gene is related with the TNM stage and metastasis of HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma). It is also found to be expressed in breast cancer cells. Inactivation of this gene in breast cancer cells results in apoptosis and prevents proliferation. The gene might be involved in the control of the MAPK/ERK (mitogen-activated protein kinases/extracellular signal-regulated kinases) signaling pathway in breast cancer.
