Beschreibung
First obtained by Spath and Suominen from Litsea citrata, this alkaloid has also
been found in Phylica rogersii Pillans. With CH2N2 it gives glaucine (q.v.) while
Hofmann degradation of the O-ethyl ether gives 3: S: 6-trimethoxy-2-ethoxy-8-
vinylphenanthrene, m.p. 140-loC, identical with that obtained from laurotetanine
(q.v.). The O-ethyl ether is characterized as the methiodide, colourless
crystals from Me2CO-MeOH, m.p. 206-7°C; [α]
D + 61° (c 0.70, EtOH).
