Citrus juice is a complex mixture of hundreds of chemical constituents. Many of these relate to the quality and nutritional value of these products. Citrus fruits have long been recognized as excellent sources of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), which is the most abundant vitamin in citrus fruits. Citrus fruits are also quite rich in the mineral element potassium. Other nutrients in orange juice that are of dietary significance, according to standards set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, i.e., they are present at a level of 10 % or more of the U.S. RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) per serving, are folic acid and thiamine (vitamin B1).
