Hazard Information | Back Directory | [General Description]
N,N-Dimethyldodecylamine is a colorless to light colored liquid at room temperature. Has the fishy odor that characterizes fatty amines. Very slightly soluble in water and denser than water. Industrial materials containing this compound typically are blends with closely similar alkyl compounds such as tetradecyldimethylamine and hexadecyldimethylamine. Used as intermediates in the manufacture of quaternary ammonium compounds for use in cleaning agents and cosmetics. | [Reactivity Profile]
N,N-dimethyldodecylamine, a tertiary alkyl amine, is non-flammable but combustible (flash point >230°F). May react with copper and copper-containing alloys such as brass. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents and with strong acids. Very toxic to the aquatic organisms. Dangerous to the environment. | [Health Hazard]
TOXIC; inhalation, ingestion or skin contact with material may cause severe injury or death. Contact with molten substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution. | [Fire Hazard]
Combustible material: may burn but does not ignite readily. When heated, vapors may form explosive mixtures with air: indoors, outdoors and sewers explosion hazards. Contact with metals may evolve flammable hydrogen gas. Containers may explode when heated. Runoff may pollute waterways. Substance may be transported in a molten form. | [Chemical Properties]
