To a mixture of tert-butyl 2-(2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethoxy)acetate (1.5 g, 6.8 mmol) and TEA (2.07 g, 20.5 mmol) in DCM (5 mL) was added TsCl (1.95 g, 10.23 mmol) at 0° C. The resulting mixture was warmed to room temperature and stirred for 3 hours. The solution was quenched with water (20 mL), and extracted with DCM. The organic phase was washed with brine (20 mL×2). The organic phase was dried over Na₂SO₄, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (CH₂Cl₂:MeOH 40:1) to give tert-butyl 2-(2-(2-(tosyloxy)ethoxy)ethoxy)acetate (2.14 g, mmol, 84% yield).
