1M Borane-THF complex solution in THF (10.2 ml, 10.2 mmol) is added to a solution of N- (tetrahydropyran-4-ylmethyl)acetamide (235 mg, 1.50 mmol) in THF (15 ml) at ambient temperature under nitrogen gas atmosphere. After stirring for 2 days, methanol (5 ml) is added to the reaction mixture at ambient temperature. After stirring for 1 hour, 1 N HCI (50 ml) is added to the solution, and a part of THF is removed by evaporation in vacuo. The solution is washed with ether and 5N NaOH is added to the solution. The product is extracted with CH2CI2, and the organic phase is washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and concentrated to give N-ethyl-N-[(tetrahydropyran-4-yl)methyl)]amine. ESI-MS m/z: 144 [M+ 1]+ HPLC retention time : 0.58 min.
