Typical procedure for N-arylation of aniline with Ph3SnCl catalyzed by Cu(OAc)2
General procedure: Copper acetate (40 mol%, 0.076 g) was added to a mixture of aniline (1.0 mmol, 0.09 mL) and triphenyltin chloride (0.5 mmol, 0.193 g) in triethylamine (10 equiv, 1.4 mL) at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred for 24h and the progress of the reaction was monitored by TLC. After the completion of the reaction, excess of Et3N was neutralized with HCl (1 N, 1 mL). The catalyst was then filtered and the aqueous solution was extracted with ethyl acetate (5×10 mL) and dried over anhydrous Na2SO4. After evaporation of the solvent, the crude product was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (n-hexane/EtOAc, 7/3) to afford N-phenyl aniline in 94% yield (0.158 g).
