Steps:

7 Example 7: 6-(methoxycarbonyl)quinoline

6.0 mmol of thionyl chloride was slowly added to 2.0 mmol of 6-quinolinecarboxylic acid dissolved in 5 mL of methanol at 0 and the reaction mixture was stirred at 50 for 12 hours. 30 mL of saturated aqueous NaHCO₃solution was added thereto, and the reaction was allowed to be completed. The reaction mixture was extracted with 30 mL of dichloromethane three times. The reaction mixture was dried over MgSO₄, then a solid was filtered off, and an organic solvent was removed under reduced pressure 6-(methoxycarbonyl)quinoline as a white solid in 98 % yield.
