General procedure for reaction of aldehydesand ammonia (Table 1)
General procedure: In a dried test tube, 3.0 mmol aldehyde, 0.4 cm3 ammonia(3.2 mmol), and 0.5 cm3 DES were mixed and heated at60 C until the reaction was complete. The reaction mixturewas then diluted with water and extracted with ethylacetate. After evaporation of the solvent, the resulting solidor viscous liquid was recrystallized from solvents such asn-hexane, ethanol, diethyl ether; in some cases columnchromatography (n-hexane-ethyl acetate) was applied togive pure products. All compounds were characterized bymelting points that were found to be identical with the onesdescribed in literature.
