A mixture of ethyl 4-chloro-2-methylquinoline-6-carboxylate (Preparation Example 66, 145 mg), DMF (6.1 ml) and sodium azide (189 mg) was stirred under a nitrogen atmosphere . After stirring for 6 hours at 120°C , the solvent of the reaction mixture was distilled off under reduced pressure.Ice water was added to the resulting residue, the product was extracted with ethyl acetate, the organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure.The resulting residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent: hexane-chloroform) to give ethyl 4-amino-2-methylquinoline-6-carboxylate (48 mg) as a pale brown solid.
