Reaction Conditions:
Stage #1: pyrrolidine;4-acetylphenylboronic acid in methanol at 20;4A molecular sieve;
Stage #2: with hydrogen;palladium 10% on activated carbon in methanol; under 2327.23 Torr;
Steps:
A mixture of 4-acetylphenylboronic acid (61.4 g, 0.1 mol) in 400 mL methanol containing activated 4 molecular sieves was stirred under N2 while pyrrolidine (84 mL, 1.0 mol) was added via syringe-slight exotherm. After stirring at rt overnight, the reactants were filtered and the filtrate was hydrogenated in the presence of 7 g of 10% Pd-on-carbon at an initial pressure of 45 psi for 3 hours. The reaction was filtered through diatomaceous earth (d.e.) and concentrated in vacuo to an amorphous yellow solid, 20 g. Mass spectrum (m/z) calcd for C12H18BNO2: 220; obsd 220.2 (M+).
