To a stirred solution of 3-oxo-3-o-tolylpropanenitrile (100 mg, 0.63 mmol) in EtOH (2 mL) was added NH₂NH₂ H₂O (46 μL, 0.95 mmol). After heating to 70 °C for 16 h, the reaction was concentrated under reduced pressure to provide 5-?-tolyl- lH-pyrazol-3 -amine (100 mg, 92% crude yield) as yellow oil.
