Steps:
2-Chloro-5-nitronicotinonitrile (870 mg, 4.74 mmol) was dissolved in ethanol/ethyl acetate (20 mL, 2: 1 ) at room temperature. Palladium on carbon (10%, 100 mg) was added and the reaction stirred under an atmosphere of hydrogen at room temperature for 6 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered through a Celitepad, washed with ethyl acetate and the filtrate concentrated under reduced pressure to give 5-amino-2-chloronicotinonitrile (620 mg, 85% yield).LCMS (method 4): Rt = 0.72, MS (ESIpos) m/z = 154 (M+H)
