(4-Bromo-2-nitrophenyl)hydrazine was prepared according to the following procedure. A solution of 4-bromo-l-fluoro-2 -nitrobenzene (2.20 g, 10 mmol) in EtOH (20 mL) was cooled using an ice bath. Hydrazine hydrate (1.07 mL, 2.2 eq., 22 mmol) was added dropwise. The mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. To the mixture were added saturated NaHCCL (10 mL), brine (20 mL) and EtOAc (60 mL). The layers were separated and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc (30 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over NaiSO-i. filtered and concentrated to give (4-bromo-2- nitrophenyl)hydrazine (2.32 g, 100 %) as a brick-red solid. 'H NMR (299 MHz, Chloroform -r/) d 8.90 (s, 1H), 8.28 (d, J= 2.3 Hz, 1H), 7.69 - 7.50 (m, 2H), 3.82 (s, 2H).
