To a solution of ie f-butyl 3-cyano-3-phenylpropanoate A61 (231 mg, 1 mmol) in THF (10 mL) was added LiAIH₄ (1 M solution in THF, 2.0 mL, 2.0 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at RT for 2 h. The mixture was diluted with water, extracted with EtOAc (100 mL) and the organic layer was washed with water, dried over Na2S0₄, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (115 mg, 60%) as a yellow oil. LCMS -A (ES- API): R_t 0.322 min, m/z 166.1 [M+H]⁺.
