Generalprocedure for the synthesis of 12a-b
General procedure: To a solution of the 4-phenoxybenzonitrile derivative (1 mmol) and KOH (20 mmol) in MeOH (0.6 mL) and EtOH (2.6 mmol), H2O2 30% (1 mL) was added dropwise. The reaction mixture was refluxed for 4h30. After cooling to room temperature, the mixture was acidized with HCl 3M to pH 1and the product was extracted with CH2Cl2. The organic layer was dried with anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the product.
