Reaction Conditions:
Stage #1: (3R,4R)-1-benzyl-3,4-pyrrolidinediolwith hydrogen;palladium 10% on activated carbon in ethyl acetate; under 2947.82 Torr; for 12 h;
Stage #2: with hydrogenchloride in 1,4-dioxane;ethyl acetate;
Steps:
(3R, 4R)-1-(phenylmethyl)-3,4-pyrrolidinediol (250 mg, 1.30 mmol) was dissolved in ethyl acetate and added to a suspension of 10% Pd on carbon in ethyl acetate. The mixture was hydrogenated on a Parr hydrogenator at 57 PSI for 12 hours. The reaction was then filtered through Celite to remove catalyst. Excess 4N HCI in dioxane was added and then concentrated give the title compound as a brown oil which was used without further purification.
