To a stirred solution of 10H-phenothiazine (5 g, 25.1 mmol)in AcOH (50 mL) was added Br2(3.3 mL, 63 mmol) and stirring continued at room temperature for 16 h. The reaction mixturewas filtered and dried to get the title compound asbrown solid(7 g, quantitative):’HNIVIR(DMSO 400 MHz) ? 6.55-6.57 (m, 2H),7.06-7.20 (m, 4H), 8.79 (s, 1H);MS (ESI) m/z358(M+2H).
