1,1-bis(methylthio)-2-nitroethylene (3.0 g, 18 mmol) in NH3 / MeOH (30 niL, 7M) was heated to 50°C. After 18 hours, the reaction mixture was concentrated to obtain an orange solid. Crude product 4.1 (2.42 g, 23 mmol, -100%) was used in the next step without further purification.
