To a 250-mL round-bottom flask purged and maintained with an inert atmosphere of N2 was placed a solution of 4-(benzyloxy)-1-methyl-2-nitrobenzene (1.4 g,5.76 mmol,as prepared in the previous step) in MeOH (30 mL),then Raney Ni (150 mg) was added. The reaction was purged with H2 then stirred for 16 h at rt.The atmosphere was purged with N2,then the solids were removed by filtration. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure affording 1 g (8 1%) of the title compound as light red oil. Mass Spectrum (LCMS,ESI pos): Calcd. for C14H16NO: 214.1 (M+H); Found: 214.1.
