General Procedure VII-LCompound VII-IIIB (1.5 g, 5.64 mmol) was added into 45 mL of conc. H2SO4 at 0° C. portion wise. After addition, the reaction solution was stirred at r.t. for 2 hrs. The solution was poured into ice water (20 mL) slowly and made alkaline by addition of aq. NaOH (50%). The mixture was extracted with EtOAc (100 mL×3). The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, and concentrated in vacuo to give naphthalene-2,6-diamine (VII-IIIC) (411 mg, yield 46%), which was used directly in next step without further purification.
