Reaction Conditions:

with sodium tetrahydroborate;nickel dichloride in methanol at 0 - 20; for 2 h;

To a 500 ml methanol solution of 10.7 g (45 mmol) of nickel chloride hexa-hydrate was gradually added 5.1 g (135 mmol) of sodium borohydride under ice cooling. The temperature was returned to room temperature, and the mixture was stirred for 1 hour, then, 19.0 g (90 mmol) of1, 5-dichloro-2-fluoro-4-nitrobenzene obtained above was added, and cooled with ice. To this was gradually added 12.O g (317 mmol) of sodium borohydride . The mixture was stirred for 1 hour, then, the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure. To the residue was added 150 ml of a 1 N hydrochloric acid aqueous solution, 150 ml of ammonia water and 200 ml of ethyl acetate in this order and the mixture was stirred. Insoluble materials were filtrated through celite, and an organic layer was washed with saturated saline, dried over sodium sulfate, and distilled off under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatograph to obtain 14.8 g (yield: 91%) of the aimed compound.
