7.7.10 Example 7.10: Synthesis of (3aR,6R,6aR)-6-(hydroxymethyl)-2,2-dimethyl-6,6a-dihydro-3 aH-furo [3 ,4-d] [ 1 ,3 ] dioxol-4-one (85)
To a solution of D-ribono-l,4-lactone (84, 20.21 g, 136.45 mmol, 1.00 equiv.) in acetone (400 mL) was added concentrated aqueous HC1 (37%, 9,50 mL, 113.77 mmol, 0.83 equiv.). The reaction mixture was stirred overnight until TLC indicated full conversion of the starting material. Solid NaHCO3was added, the reaction mixture was filtered and the filter cake was rinsed with acetone (100 mL). The combined filtrates were concentrated in vacuo and (3aR,6R,6aR)-6-(hydroxymethyl)-2,2-dimethyl-6,6a-dihydro-3aH-furo[3,4-d][l,3]dioxol-4- one (85, 25.21 g, 133.97 mmol, 98%) was directly used for the next step as crude product.
