16.1 Step 1: Synthesis of 2-(lH-indol-3-yl)acetaldehyde
To a solution of 2-(1Η- indol-3-yl)ethan-l-ol (1.00 g, 6.20 mmol) in CH3CN (25 mL) was added 2-iodoxybenzoic acid (0.52 g, 18.0 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated at 80 °C for 3 h. The reaction mixture was filtered through a pad of diatomaceous earth, washing with CH3CN (10 mL). The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to afford 2-(lH-indol-3-yl) acetaldehyde (0.90 g, 91%) as a brown semi solid. This compound was used as such for the next reaction without further purification.
