Steps:
4.2.1. Synthesis of terpyridine ligands
LDTP [36]. This terpyridine derivative was prepared in one step reactionrather than that previously reported in the literature. To a roundflask charged with terephthaldehyde (10 mmol, 1.34 g), 2-acetylpyridine(80 mmol, 9.68 g), potassium tert-butoxide (6.50 g), and ammoniasolution (70 mL), 100 mL ethanol was added and then the reactionmixture was stirred for 20 h, whereupon yellowish white precipitatewas formed. The precipitate collected and washed several times bywater. Recrystallization was performed from 2:1 chloroform/methanolmixture. Yield: 77% (4.17 g, 7.71 mmol). IR (ATR, diamond): ν = 3060(w, CH), 1578, 1466, 1416, 1387, 1261, 1120, 987, 789, 734 cm-1. 1HNMR (CDCl3, 400.40 MHz): δ = 8.80 (s, 4H, central py-H), 8.75 (d,3JH,H = 4.1 Hz, 4H, py-H6), 8.68 (d, 3JH,H = 8.3 Hz, 4H, py-H3), 8.05(s, 4H, ph-H), 7.88 (td, 3JH,H = 7.6 Hz, 4JH,H = 1.5 Hz, 4H, py-H4),7.36 (m, 4H, py-H5) ppm. Because of the poor solubility of LDTP, it wasdifficult to record the 13C NMR spectrum. C36H24N6·H2O: C 77.40, H4.69, N 15.04, found: C 77.11, H 4.38, N 15.03.
