Reaction Conditions:

Stage #1:4-(piperidine-1-carbonyl)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester with hydrogenchloride in water at 0; for 0.166667 h;
Stage #2: with sodium hydroxide in water; pH=10

3.2 g (10.8 mmol) of 4-(piperidine-l-carbonyl)-piperidine-l-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester were dissolved in 25 mL of 6N HCl solution at 0⁰C. After 10 minutes TLC showed complete conversion of the starting material, the mixture was cooled at 0⁰C, basified to pH 10 with NaOH (pellets) and extracted with AcOEt. The organic phase concentrated under reduced pressure gave 1.9 g of title compound (91% yield).NMR (400 MHz, DMSO): 1.43-1.59 (4H, m), 1.60-1.75 (8H, m), 2.53-2.71 (3H, m), 3.06-3.20 (2H, m), 3.36-3.47(2H, m), 3.50-3.61 (2H, m).
