Steps:

Intermediate 7. 1-(3-bromophenvl)-1H-imidazole

A stirred suspension of 1-bromo-3-iodobenzene (available from Apollo) (2.252 mL, 17.67 mmol), 1F1-imidazole (2.166 g, 31.8 mmol), copper(I) iodide (0.673 g, 3.53 mmol) and caesiumcarbonate (11.52 g, 35.3 mmol) in MeCN (70 mL) was degassed (3 times) and then was refluxed overnight under nitrogen. The reaction mixture was allowed to cool down to room temperature, filtered and the filtrate was concentrated in vacua The residue was purified by chromatography on a KP-silica cartridge (100 g) eluting with 0-100% EtOAc-cyclohexane. The appropriate fractions were combined and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (3.55 g, 90%) as a colourlessoil: LCMS (System C) RTh0.92 mm, 99°Io, ES+ve m/z 223, 225 (M+H).
