Release time: 2023-12-06
Polycarbosilane (PCS) cas:62306-27-8 is a unique material with various applications in different area. Let’s learn about its properties and potential uses!
1.Composition and Structure:
- Molecular Formula:
- Molecular Chain Structure:
2. Key Properties:
1) Fragility: PCS is extremely brittle and can easily be crushed into powder.
2) Density: Slightly higher than water, typically ranging from 1.05 to 1.15g·cm-3.
3) Solubility: PCS is soluble in solvents like xylene, tetrahydrofuran, and n-hexane, but insoluble in water.
4) Melting Point: PCS softens and melts above its softening point temperature under inert gas protection. It starts decomposing at temperatures above 400°C.
5) Chemical Properties:
①PCS can oxidize and deteriorate when stored in the air for extended periods.
②At temperatures above 1000°C, it decomposes to form SiC ceramics, which can be used to produce continuous silicon carbide fibers, ceramic coatings, SiC micro-powders, and more.
3. Applications:
1) Luminescent Ceramic Films: PCS can be used to prepare luminous ceramic coatings.
2) Silicon Carbide Fibers: PCS is utilized in the production of silicon carbide fibers.
3) High-Temperature Coatings: PCS can be used as a precursor for high-temperature coatings.
4) Ceramic Matrix Composites: PCS serves as a base material for ceramic-based composites.
5) High-Temperature Binders: PCS can be used to create high-temperature adhesives.
6) β-SiC Nanopowders: PCS is employed in the production of β-SiC nanoparticles.
4.Storage:
PCS should be stored in vacuum-sealed or inert gas-sealed containers in a cool, dry environment (temperature ≤ -5°C). It has a shelf life of 5 years, and if it passes the inspection after expiration, it could still be used.
