Sodium citrate as a blood collection additive

 

Sodium citrate, also known as sodium citrate, is a common anticoagulant in vacuum blood collection vessels. Its appearance is white powder crystal. Its anticoagulation principle is that citrate ions in sodium citrate chelate with calcium ions in blood samples, thus affecting the coagulation effect of calcium ions on blood.

 

There are two kinds of vacuum blood collection tubes with sodium citrate added as anticoagulant. One is the blue cap vacuum blood collection tube used for blood coagulation measurement. The concentration of sodium citrate is 3.2% or 3.8%, that is, 0.109mol/L or 0.129mol/L. When using this vacuum blood collection tube, the ratio of sodium citrate to blood sample is 1:9.

 

The other is a brown cap vacuum blood collection tube for ESR measurement. The concentration of sodium citrate added to the tube is 3.2%, which is equivalent to 0.109mol/L. The ratio of sodium citrate to blood required by this tube collection is 1:4. The volume of blood sample of the two kinds of evacuated blood collection vessels is 2ml.

 

When using the vacuum blood collection tube with sodium citrate, after obtaining the blood sample, it is necessary to gently reverse the blood sample and anticoagulant fully and evenly to fully avoid blood coagulation. If it is ESR test, it can be directly put on the ESR rack. If it is hemagglutination test, it needs to obtain the upper plasma through centrifugation for testing.

Because citrate and calcium ions can form soluble complexes, sodium citrate is usually used as an anticoagulant or blood transfusion agent, which has a good effect on the preservation and processing of blood products.
