Corosolic acid is a white amorphous powder (methanol), also known as plant insulin or 2 α — hydroxy ursolic acid. It is an extract of Barabba and Hibiscus fragrans, belonging to the alpha resin alcohol or Usane pentacyclic triterpenoid compounds. It is soluble in organic solvents such as petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, and pyridine, insoluble in water, and soluble in hot ethanol and methanol. Under anhydrous conditions, color reactions or fluorescence may occur when interacting with strong acids (sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, perchloric acid), medium strong acids (trichloroacetic acid), or Lewis acid (zinc chloride, aluminum trichloride, antimony trichloride).
