The St. John's wort mechanism is believed to inhibit the uptake of serotonin (5-HT) dopamine, and noradrenaline,much like the conventional selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants.It also has affinity for GABA and glutamate receptors.
