Corosolic acid is derived from an extract of crape Myrtle, commonly known as Barnabas, which is abundant in the Philippines. In vivo and in vitro experiments showed that corosolic acid promoted the absorption and utilization of glucose by stimulating glucose transport, thus achieving its hypoglycemic effect. Corosolic acid's excitatory effect on glucose transport is similar to that of insulin; therefore, corosolic acid is also known as plant insulin.
