The rapid extraction and determination of magnolol and honokiol from magnolia officinalis were studied. Methods The hplc method was used to determine the content of magnolol and honokiol. The mobile phase was methanol aqueous glacial acetic acid (85∶15∶0.25) at the flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. The detection wavelength was set at 294 nm and the column temperature was 23℃. Results The results showed that the extraction rates of magnolol, honokiol and total phenol in magnolia officinalis were 94.59%, 85.45% and 88.81%, respectively, in the rapid extraction system with 60% ethanol and 71℃ for 3 times (10 min/ time). rp-hplc method is better and the result is ideal. Conclusion A good method for the extraction and determination of honokiol and honokiol in magnolia officinalis was obtained.
