Deciduous trees. The bark is purple-brown, and the young branches are pale yellow with silky hairs. Simple leaves alternate, densely at the tip of branchlets; leaf blade elliptic-obovate, leathery, apex obtuse or mucronate, base cuneate, entire or slightly wavy, abaxially covered with gray-white short hairs when young. Flowers and leaves open at the same time, solitary branch tops, pedicels stubby, hairy; tepals 9-12, white, fragrant; stamens and pistils are numerous, spirally arranged on extended receptacles. Aggregate fruit long ovate-elliptic, woody. There is usually 1 seed per chamber. The flowering period is from April to May, and the fruit period is from September to October.
