The enormous health and economic burden of gastrointestinal disease worldwide warrants a sharp focus on the etiology, epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and development of new therapies. Nevertheless, specialists face ongoing challenges from a wide array of diseases of diverse etiology.
