3-Nitrobenzoic acid is a commonly used chemical reagent, which is widely used as raw material for organic synthesis or intermediate for dyestuff and medicine. It can be used in the synthesis of aromatic benzene, aldehydes, ethers, benzenesulfonic acid and other organic heterocyclic compounds such as pyridine. In addition, studies have shown that it also has certain trypanocidal action and prevents the corrosion of mild steel.

Trypanocidal Action of 3-Nitrobenzoic Acid and Some Derivatives

In a previous study, Morgenroth found that 3-hydroxybenzoic acid had some trypanocidal effect. 4-Nitrobenzoic acid has traces of trypanocidal activity. Therefore, the researchers evaluated whether 3-nitrobenzoic acid and some derivatives have trypanocidal activity. The results of the study showed that 3-nitrobenzoic acid, 3-Nitrobenzoate sodium, 3-Nitrobenzyl alcohol, 3-Nitrotoluene, 3-Nitrobenzoate methyl, 3-Nitrobenzoate ethyl and 3- Nitrobemaldehyde are compounds that have a killing effect on trypanosomes.

Inhibition of corrosion of mild steel in H2SO4 solution with 3-nitrobenzoic acid

It was shown that 3-nitrobenzoic acid inhibited the corrosion of mild steel in H2SO4 solution. Maximum inhibition efficiencies of 87.15%, 90.51%, 95.42% and 99.40% were obtained by weight loss, potentiostatic, linear polarisation and EIS methods, respectively, at 0.01 M inhibitor concentration. The activation energies (between 26.02 and 59.02 J/mol) support the mechanism of charge transfer from the charged inhibitor to the charged metal surface, which favours the physisorption mechanism. 3 Nitrobenzoic acid is predominantly a cathodic type of inhibitor that prevents the corrosion of mild steels by blocking the metal surface.
