what is Ampicillin?
Ampicillin is a penicillin antibiotic, It is used for treating bacterial infections middle ear, sinuses, stomach and intestines, bladder, and kidney caused by susceptible bacteria. Ampicillin is effective against many bacteria including H. influenzae, N. gonorrhoea, E. coli, Salmonella, and Shigella, streptococci and certain strains of staphylococci. It also is used for treating uncomplicated gonorrhea, meningitis, endocarditis and other serious infections.
What is Amoxicillin?
Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic. It is chemically similar to ampicillin and has a broad spectrum of activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Amoxicillin is used to treat bacterial infections of the middle ear, tonsils, throat, larynx (laryngitis), bronchi (bronchitis), lungs (pneumonia), urinary tract, and skin. It also is used to treat gonorrhea.
Amoxicillin vs Ampicillin
Ampicillin and amoxicillin are penicillin-type antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections of the middle ear and respiratory tract and to treat gonorrhea. The aminopenicillins have similar spectrums of activity, but amoxicillin is the preferred agent over ampicillin for a variety of reasons.
