PTX3是一種原型長五聚蛋白，由C端203個氨基酸的五聚蛋白樣結構域與N端178個氨基酸無關部分組成。在調節(jié)對病原體的先天抵抗力、炎癥反應、可能清除自身成分和女性生育能力方面發(fā)揮作用。PTX3可以與C1q結合，但不能與C1s結合。
